Aboriginal governments and devolution

Aboriginal governments have been involved in Devolution from the very beginning and worked with the GNWT to negotiate the best agreement possible. On April 1, they will be part of a new Intergovernmental Council to collaborate on land and resource management. The terms of reference for the Council are set out in Schedule 5 of the Devolution Agreement (scroll to page 153). The GNWT is continuing discussions with the Dehcho First Nations and the Akaitcho Territory Dene First Nations and there is a seat for each of them waiting at the table.
